HELP

Any tips on giving a breastfed baby a bottle when I'm not around? He did good with bottles for 3 weeks then this past week decided to have nothing to do with it. Apparently screaming when offered a bottle. Any help would be appreciated.

Show Us Where You Live Friday: Cason's Room

I wanted to join in on the fun in showing off my Nursery. You can join too on Kelly's blog.

The letters i found online. They are just cardboard that i painted. I wanted cool metal letters that were different sizes but sometimes you can't get everything you want.

Here's an overall view of the room. Everything was planned around the Dwell bedding from Target (i'm cheap) but i like how it turned out. The rug is made from carpet samples that i got from work. I've added more to the wall shelves since this picture was taken but now that the baby's here, it's hard to pause and take pictures without him in it!

Here's the crib. You can't really tell from the pictures but the matching curtains were made for a mineature room so i had to get a bunch and cut and sew them together to make them fit my normal sized window.
It is important to me that Cason appreciates fine art. The picture here is one i did in a graphic design class in college. the stripes below the shelves i painted on the wall. My old school walls are too textured to tape and paint so we chalklined the stripes and I painted them in by hand. That's about as much exercise as i got when i was pregnant.
More fine art, donated by my sister. She did this in an art class in college. Someday I will have some of my brothers photography up but he has to give me some first. It's funny, he's the only one of us that actually regularly produces fine art and I don't have any hanging for Cason.

I have always loved this verse and I thought it was perfect for a childs room. It is made from those rub on sticky letters. I wish we had gotten a picture of me 7 months pregnant on the top step of a stepladder trying to apply the letters. Another negative about the textured walls, it's very hard to apply those things.

This antique rocker has been in the family for a very long time. I had it recovered so it would match better.

Here is a close up of the wall circles above the crib. I have wanted these for years and finally had a good place to put them up. They are from the Chiasso catalog and they come white so you can paint them any color.
Hope you enjoyed the tour of the nursery!

Another Home Project

I don't have a door between my kitchen and laundry/pantry. Like most people in the world, my laundry room and pantry are an incredible mess most of the time. We had originally gotten sliding panels from ikea and those looked great and worked well except after enough times of the dogs running through them, they were starting to wear out and get dirty. So, I came up with the brilliant idea to just hang curtains. The fabric is from Ikea and I cheated and used the iron on tape to make the seams instead of sewing. They slide back and forth easily and the orange is the same color as my chairs!

This is Cason this morning listening as I tell the cable company why I should not have a late fee. He was fascinated as you can tell!

Our Little Chunk

We had Cason's 2 month appointment this morning. He weighed 12 pounds 4 ounces and was 24" long (Remember he started at 7 lb 11 oz and 21" long). He's in the 85% for his height which means not a lot of 2 month olds are longer than he is.
Everything looked good, we had to get some shots which wasn't fun for either one of us but he did really well. We decided to follow Dr. Sears shot schedule which spreads the shots out and delays all the ones that can be delayed. I know there is no medical evidence that links vaccinations to autism but since he doesn't have to go to daycare right away we aren't trying to get everything in quickly. He was pumped full of drugs when he was in NICU also and some of those have potential side effects when he grows up (unlikely, but still...) so I just felt like spareading the shots out would be nice.

Here's some photos to catch you up on what's been going on.

Lou (grandmother Linda) found this outfit and it's one of our favorites. Target Dwell studio has the coolest clothes! He had been fussy so i put him in the sling and walked him around until he crashed and then I took the sling off of me but left him in it so I wouldn't wake him.

This is Mikes favorite outfit (for obvious reasons). Cason is enjoying some time with Charger.

I was trying to get a picture of his eyes, they are getting very blue. You can tell here he's really porked up. No one has to ask if he's eating enough!

We like this outfit too because he looks so cute in it.

He loves is space play matt. He has fun staring at everything and kicking his legs.
I'm back to work and many of you have been asking what we do with Cason. It sometimes changes weekly but here's the basics. Monday and Tuesday he's with Lou, Wednesday I work from home, Thursday Mike and I each work 1/2 days (at least that's what we did this week, this day changes a lot), Friday Mike is at home. None of the 3 weeks I've been back to work have been the same yet, and this week is no exception. We are all learning to be really flexible and hopefully Cason will too!

The maids job just got harder

I got really nice china when i got married and it's been in a box ever since then. I always wanted a buffet to store them in but those are expensive and we really don't have any room in the house to put it. So, I had the brilliant idea that we could just purchase wall shelving and store everything on open shelves. I realize i'm going to be fighting a loosing battle with dust but I think it looks great. This is one of those areas that will probably get re-arranged a lot. One guess what i'll be looking to add in? COLOR!!! I'm so predictable.

No, neither chair pictured is our dining chairs- we don't have any of those at the moment. What good is a table without chairs you ask? I'm not sure but i'll let you know when i figure it out!

Grande tea latte... whatever.

I have a new drink at Starbucks. In the fall/winter it's a pumpkin spice steamer. Pretty simple. The Target Starbucks lady introduced me to this new drink and i'm sort of addicted, only problem is, I get nervous when I have to order it. In normal language the drink is: Grande chai tea latte, with a shot of vanilla, soy milk and no water. In Starbucks language (the language they use to repeat your drink back to you with a disaproving look if you get it wrong) it's "Grande vanilla soy no water chai". After getting it 20 times i finally knew what the drink was called in starbucks language, it just doesn't roll of the toungue for me. I have to repeat it several times before going through the drive through in my head, then say it out loud quickly and hope i don't get so nervous that i mix up the order. It seems so silly but i hate the look they give me when i order it the way most humans would. Why this pressure to learn Starbucks language so I don't look silly to the order taker. I don't know, but I can tell you i'm sticking to this drink so I don't have to learn anything new for a long time.

"Joan, You're Hired"

Any of you been watching this- Celebrity Apprentice? Mike and I got into it somewhere mid season and have loved it. I'm not a big fan of Donald Trump, his ego annoys me, but the celebrities this year were great. At first I was rooting for Scott the ice skater, I love ice skating, but he got kicked off early on, don't know why. Then I was rooting for Clint Black, I grew up on some Clint, but he was kind of a pain to work with. Then I was rooting for Jessie James (the one married to Sandra Bullock), but one challenge he was a punk. But all along, there was Joan Rivers, I wasn't a fan of hers from the things I saw of her on the red carpet but she is really quite funny and charming. She also had a bit of a mean streak, which was also funny. So down to the last two, the bitter rivals Joan Rivers and Annie Duke. They hated each other and whether it was a ratings stunt or not, it was some good tv. I can imagine that most people were rooting for Joan just like I was.
You can bet I'll be tuning in next season although without Joan, it might not be any good.

So You Think You Can Dance

I just did a happy dance when I found out the show premieres at the end of May. Yea!

It's going to be a good summer, get ready.

I am spoiled

It was my second day back at work (my first day back wearing heels all day which is a very big deal) and my second day to realize that it's impossible to be 100% when you are tired. I thought I would be different, I've always been able to pull myself together at the office (well, almost always) but i'm not 100% yet and that's just the truth. I was so completely exhausted today that in order to stay awake I used the eat constantly technique. I figured if I were chewing something I couldn't fall asleep. Luckly I brought a lot of high protein snacks so those kept me going for awhile but when those were over... the peanut butter m&m's were calling my name. I'm going to try a new technique next called the drink constantly and suck down some flavored water instead, much better for me.

Anyways, back to being spoiled. Monday and Tuesday are grandmother's (Lou Lou, please do NOT refer to her as grandmother! :-) days to watch Cason. This week, she came down on Sunday evening and watched him while Mike and I went on our first date in a long time. Then Monday morning she made me breakfast and part of lunch. They hung out all day and Mike and I came home to a clean house and dinner on the table. Today, wonderful breakfast, Cason updates throughout the day, came home to an even cleaner house and dinner in the oven. Remind me why we ever move out of our parents house? See, totally spoiled and I will admit it and I don't even care, I think I have the best mom ever!!! Now the reality is that I'm paying her but I'll tell you right now that whatever I pay is much less than the thousands of dollars that she deserves.

Okay, Cason is waking up and looks hungry!

Sleep, Precious Sleep

Last night we had a breakthrough. Cason fell asleep at 11:00, I put him and myself to bed and at 5:45 this morning he woke up becuase he was hungry. I kicked Mike (that's his signal to get up and change the baby so I can feed him) and exclaimed excitedly "it's 5:45!" I can't remember the last time I was happy that it was 5:45 am but this morning, I wanted to throw a party. Now I know we will have setbacks and bad nights still to come but I feel like we have conqured a huge milestone (sleeping more than 3 hours) and it's very exciting. If it happens 1-2 more times he's moving to his own room!

Back to Work

Well, it's officially been 6 weeks and I'm back to work. It's a bit bittersweet. I'm excited about being back in the land of adults and doing what I love but it's hard to leave a baby. I decided to work a 1/2 day just to practice getting up, putting makeup on, putting clothes on, changing out of my slippers, etc. You see, up until yesterday, the majority of my days were spent NOT doing those things.
So, it started last night when I took a shower and dried my hair, set out my clothes, pre-measured bottles, got my computer ready, all those things. Cason woke up at 4:00 to eat so i set my alarm for 6:00 and went back to sleep for awhile. When I woke up Cason was still asleep so I was able to finish getting ready. I was sad to leave him sleeping becuase I didn't get my morning smile. :-(
Work went well, 1/2 day wasn't enough time but next week it's back to full time so I can get plenty done.
Like I said, I'm happy to be back at work and I really do enjoy it, I just had hoped we would be further along by now. He still isn't sleeping through the night, I still can't find time to make dinner, do laundry, take care of myself or anyone else around here. All of you that have kids are reading this and saying "duh, of course it isn't long enough" but I had no clue, still have no clue. I think I need a baby manual!
Please pray for me working next week, I think leaving for the full day will be even harder than leaving for a 1/2 day.
