The cabin that Jesus built

Many people I have talked with over the past few days have been to falls creek for camp. It's a cool place. Churches in Oklahoma have built cabins there and you rent a cabin for your group.
I don't know what to expect... At all. I had seen a snapshot of some of the cabins online so I knew it would be plain. It is after all, camp.

Here is our quaint little cabin. It's one of the cuter ones. I think it was built in 1930 but the rest of the cabins look like world war 2 bunkers so I liked the homey look of this cabin.

Here's our kitchen with our cook hard at work. The kitchen had everything she needed so she was happy.

All of this would have been fine and good had it not been for this thing next door.

You are probably thinking what I am thinking- what a nice community building. I bet the kids enjoyed having their bible studies in there. Thats what I was thinking. In fact, as soon as I dropped off my stuff at the cabin I was ready to head over there to the Starbucks that was most certainly inside.

It's not a community space. It's a cabin. First baptist Ada's cabin. They felt that in a camp full of WWII bunkers that was the appropriate thing to build. Fully equipped with plasma tv's volleyball and basketball courts and who knows what else. Seriously?! I didn't speak with anyone about their decision to build that (the tour wasn't until Thursday and I left Tuesday) but it seems a little out of line. It's not that it's new it's that it's modeled after one of the Disney resorts. If this were Disney village thats perfectly acceptable, but this is a place to go and focus on God.
Our kids had to wake up every morning and gaze upon that huge structure and wonder why those kids got all the cool stuff.

At least our cook was better.

An we have the awards to prove it.

One Crazy Summer

I blinked and July is 1/2 way over.  What happened?  Like a million things and I don't remember most of them.

- Cason is 16 months old now.  He's finally developing a vocabulary which consists of Mama, Dada, banana (pronounced nana), Brown bear (while handing me the book), Lolli (pronounced lala), bath (pronounced ba), there are more but I can't think of them right now.  He has quite a few signs he does as well.  So far, he doesn't say any of the words that he signs, guess he figures he doesn't need to.  He points and grunts a lot also.  How do you stop the grunting?

- Summer is a very busy time at church.  There's always a camp, or a lunch, or something going on.  Cason has gotten to spend a lot more time with the kids at church and he loves being the object of their attention.

- Cason and I spent a day at Merge camp in Sherman- great camp and great kids.  We enjoyed running through the pouring rain with the kids to rec.  We also enjoyed 2 days in Falls Creek Oklahoma at jr. high camp.  It was, um... rustic.  I probably would have never noticed when I was in Jr. High but when I come with a baby, metal bunk beds and muddy floors look a little different.  The kids were great and so was the food.  The chefs were my mom and sister- and the rumor is that they won some prizes in a cooking contest.  More on that later.

- I ended my first quarter teaching and enjoyed a 3 week break.  This week I started a new 3 day a week teaching schedule with Drafting 1 again and picked up Drafting 2 and Intro to Interior Design.  I'm not sure how this 3 day a week teaching thing will go but so far, so good.

- We got new, new floors.  The bamboo is gone.  The bamboo I never really got a good picture of is gone and brand new tile is in.  New tile in the kitchen, living room, and entry.  New tile that sits on top of our living room that is no longer 5" below the rest of the rooms in the house.  New baseboards to complete the look and a new ceiling paint in the den.  About a million touch-ups on the million paint colors we have in the house and this may be the last remodeling we ever, ever do.  More on that later.

- In like 3 weeks I turn 30.  I'm not excited.  More on that later.

I wish i had pictures, my camera is broken, my computer is gone, and i'm tired.

Good night.

This is what happens when...

You give your child your "empty" Starbucks cup from your vanilla soy no water chai tea latte.

It was kind of a mess. But he was happy and I was happy.

The end.

My fridge is in my den

My garage is filled with furniture. There is flour and sugar in my bedroom. I could bake a cake in the bedroom. If my oven wasn't in the garage.

That's all I have to say.

Sneaky little boy

The easiest way to look out the window is to stand on the bedside table.

Sometimes the best spot to relax is IN the dresser.

Cason demonstrates the proper way to use a rocking chair.

Finding a quiet place to hide is sometimes hard around here. It's a little easier when you can fit in the cabinet.

I love seeing all the different places he decides to explore!

Hair that describes my day

A bit crazy. I started the day looking for new flooring. That was a bust. We really need to figure out if we have a drainage problem that is causing our slab to be wet before we can figure out what material will work. So, calls to contractors, landscapers banks, etc. Still no nothing, including whether or not we will have the money to do these now necessary projects.
This afternoon I dropped my phone on the ground like I have a hundred times trying to get Cason out of the car. This time I shattered the screen. Oh well. It still works and my contract is up this summer anyways. Just in time for the new one.
I'm going to bed... Except Cason doesn't seem to feel like sleeping... Just screaming.
Me too sweetie, me too. :)

When life gives you lemons make blueberry basil lemonade

Wow. What a week. Vbs was this week and it was completely exhausting but nothing compared to what was going on at home.

Remember those beautiful bamboo floors I had put in a few weeks ago? The ones I haven't even had time to put good photos of. Well, they are gone. Like they weren't even here. In their place? Bare. Untreated. Concrete.

If I could pull myself off the chair I could post pictures but my legs don't work anymore because I have spent the weekend dusting everything. We. Own. I'm not even kidding.

So what happened. Short story. The floors buckled beyond repair and they had to come up. They say it's because our concrete is too damp and we need to fix te drainage problem in our backyard or wood wouldn't work at all. We are getting a second opinion. Maybe a third. Oh, I'm getting my money back too.
For now we are stuck watching a 50" tv from 2' away. It's a little much.

Hopefully I can go puck out new floors tomorrow. Who knows what we will find.

Here's what we get to live on until then.

Swimming Love.

My first pool

Cason loves to swim.  He loves swimming in the bathtub and he really loves swimming in the pool.  This picture was taken Memorial day at Lolli’s house in his very own pool.  I think we will be doing some swimming lessons this summer!

Random Road Trip- Oklahoma City

I took Mike on a wonderful vacation for his birthday.  He turned 31 the day before Cason turned 1.  Since it had been a crazy year and his birthday will forever be overshadowed by Casons, I thought it would be fun to take him somewhere.  We have been to San Antonio a bunch and I had read about Bricktown in Oklahoma City once and I thought it would be fun.  So, I booked the best looking bed and breakfast I could find.

IMG_0166 This is the outside.  Nice.

march 040

Here’s our bathroom.  It was very cute and old.  I had gotten a special package that included bath “amenities”, chocolate dipped strawberries, sparkling grape juice and an in-room massage.  Since it was Mikes birthday, I told him he could have the massage… but lucky for me, he didn’t want it!

march 039

Here’s our strawberries.  They were super yummy!

march 041

Mike and I were both sick that day and but we did find a really nice place for dinner and drove around a little that evening.

march 042

Here’s the awesome wallpaper and lamp that was in our room.  I’m trying to find copies so I can have my very own.

march 044

Bricktown… hmmm…. we were not really impressed.  there was not very much shopping at all and not much to see.  We found a good place to eat but that’s about it.

march 048

The Oklahoma City Memorial is worth going to see.  I’ve been twice and it’s incredibly powerful. I’m going to try and post pictures on my other blog soon.  Maybe because it happened so close to home or maybe because I remember when it happened.  I don’t know why I’m so moved by the memorial but it’s truly an amazing site.  I highly recommend you going to Oklahoma City just for this.

Hot date!

Tonight I went on a hot date with the cutest date around. Mike is at a baseball game so I was free to date around. Cason let me pick so I picked my favorite place. He made me share a cucumber sandwich though, which I don't normally do.

Then we went to the afterparty at market street. Sat night must be free sample night so Cason had another dinner. I wouldn't let him try the wine though.

Now we are home in the tub. Looking like an early bedtime for him!

Cason walking

He walks with one hand up and one hand out. I guess it helps with balance. Very cute!

A quick catch up

I can't even begin to describe how busy the last few weeks were. I don't know how I had time to work full time before!

In a nutshell- I'm enjoying teaching althouht drafting 1 wouldn't be my first choice of class. I got reviewed and did really well and will be teaching 3 classes starting in July. It will be a lot without sonshine to help with Cason and mike being gone all the time but we will figure it out!

Cason is almost walking. He tests himself more and more each day and is getting steadier and steadier. I love watching him learn. He is the most adventureous when he thinks no one is looking. We Clean or go for walks or play on the driveway or go visit daddy at work. He's a wonderfully happy boy.

I don't have any great pictures because my camera is broken and I have been lazy about sending it in. In this one Cason climbed into his stroller and stood up and tried to reach for something. I didn't know he could do that but apparently nothing is off limits. That boy wants to climb! I think I'm going to need a swingset in the backyard soon!

Anyone want some v8 splash?

Ugh. The #2 ingredient in v8 splash is high fructose corn syrup. #2!!!
Of course, I discover this after I have purchased two of them. I guess I better start reading labels closer. I thought this would be a good juice for Cason.

Vacuum fail

I was cleaning fast and furiously when I saw a spider in casons play area.

A huge spider.

Approximately the size of my hand.

I dd what any one of you would do and sprayed him with an entire bottle of hairspray until he drowned. I thought hairspray wa supposes to make their legs stick together so they couldn't move but he seemed to be getting around just fine until the puddle of hairspray was so big he couldn't get out if it.

Then I decided to take the vacuum and suck it up. Quick and easy. Well that went just fine but I also decided to run the vacuum around the whole corner in case the spider had a whole family living in the corner.

That's when the problem began.

And really, where it's ended.

It won't come out.

I suppose I could try and take off the end of the vacuum but I'm afraid the spider will attack me. Naturally.

So that's how it sits, 4 hours later. I'm waiting for mike to come home and fix it. I asked him to please leave work and take care of it for me. But today's a crazy day. It would be.

Maybe I should call his boss and tell him about my delema.

Pastor Craig. Could mike please leave his very important staff meetings to help me remove the blind chords from the vacuum and possibly be attacked by a man eating spider.

Please.
