The Most Refreshing Face Wash

I was recently introduced to a wonderful face wash.  It's from Young Living and it has some tiny particles in it that polish but aren't too rough that you can't use it every day.  It has Young Living peppermint oil in it so it's is so refreshing- you face will tingle a little and when you wash it off it's like a burst of wonderfulness.  I love to use it in the morning because it energizes me... and my face!

Give it a try!  Check out the website to order!

Fun, Easy, Affordable Art... That doesn't look like it

This story is pretty typical for the way things go around here.

It's not necessarily how i WANT them to go but it's just how it works.
I start a project.
It's super cool in my head.
I get mostly finished.
Life happens.
1-7 years later I finish the project.

This particular project is special because when I was painting the bathroom that this art is in, I got a phone call about a baby girl that needed a foster home.  I was literally holding a paintbrush talking to my foster agency and thinking "We aren't ready for a baby, when would I ever finish this bathroom?"

Well, baby Z came to live with us a few days later and she's never leaving.  Which means I may never finish the bathroom, but she's worth it!

So here's the project.

I had this canvas that I believe my sister painted for her college apartment.  it's super cute but I needed it hanging the other direction and I was hanging it on a dark wall so I always imagined that it would be light in color.  I had this idea for a project in my head when I was working on the bathroom.

In March.

March 2013.

To start I pulled some colorful pages out of magazines and cut them into strips- about 1/4" in width.
I cut approx. 1,459 more than I needed- but I didn't know that.

I had printed a pattern that I wanted on 11x17 paper so I knew the size that I needed to create.
My plan was to use mod podge to take the strips and glue them to the canvas then cover the mod podge over it for a thick clear coat.
I was out of mod podge and instead of waiting to buy more I just used some glitter glue I had laying around.  But it was lumpy.  So that wasn't a great idea.
I traced the pattern I printed onto contact paper and cut it out- then I applied the contact paper on top of the magazine strips.  The glue over them kept the stickey from ripping the magazine paper when I pulled it off.

You can kind of see the clear contact paper on top.

Then I took it outside and sprayed the entire thing white.  I used the whole can of spray paint.  I wanted it really white!

See how it's rough where the design is... well, I didn't count on that... and I'm not sure how to fix it yet.  But I will work on fixing that sometime.

When it was all dry I pulled off the contact paper to reveal the beautiful design below!

Here it is hanging in the bathroom.  You can't really tell from here but some of the edges are not as crisp as I would like so I'm going to try and touch them up somehow.

But, given my history, I went ahead and hung it in the bathroom and I'll get to finishing it in the next 2-5 years.
I have 37 other projects to work on!

Everything Design- Graduation Announcements

I love doing graduation announcements.  It's like Christmas cards in May.

It's easy to make nice cards when you have seniors that look like these.  So great!

Young Living Ningxia Berry Italian Soda

I don't even know that this is still in stock so maybe I shouldn't be writing about this... but it's so yummy!

This syrup was released at convention and goes great with the einkhorn pancake mix.  I've found so many other ways to use it though.  Here is a super simple way.

Make this great drink as soon as possible.
Order the syrup first.
And if the syrup isn't in then send an email to Young Living and tell them how much you need this syrup.
I tried it with coconut water today and it's super wonderful.

If you don't have a Young Living account ask me how to get one.  It's easy!

Spy School Birthday Party

I would love to say it was super easy to put together C’s 5th Birthday party because I do this sort of thing all the time.  BUT when it came time to plan, I was buried in life and work and I had a hard time getting all the details in order.  To be honest, the only reason I did a big party was because it’s my business- and it’s good for my portfolio.  :-)
Here we go.  C is into spies and I decided on a “Spy School” theme.  The kids came and went through some basic training and earned their certificate at the end.  It turned out to be a lot of fun!
welcome poster
We had the party at the church so I had one sign downstairs to lead everyone up.
welcome
And this was the welcome sign for the door.  I had just gotten a new printer so I can now print 11”x17” signs!
invitation
For the invitation- I made a little “folder” and had these pages cut apart and paper clipped in the folder.  I ran the envelopes through the printer and printed “top secret” on the outside.

nametag front
We had nametags for everyone to work on when they got there.  On the back, they got a sticker for every training mission they completed.

Here’s our nametag table setup.
We are about to get a bit out of order- because these pictures are seriously hard to re-arrange.
I’m not type A so it doesn’t bother me…. hopefully it won’t bother you.
 language school
So we had a series of missions they had to complete.  One of them was Language school (okay, so I needed another mission, I stretched it a bit)
We taught the kids how to say hello in a few languages and count and some other things.  I’ve watched Dora a few times so I know some Spanish and I almost failed French in college and I’ve been to Portugal twice so I’m pretty sure they learned a lot.
Actually all they did was ask when dinner was.  #fail
        IMG_4613
Speaking of dinner, the spies in training came to the cafeteria at spy school for dinner.
IMG_4648
I found these adorable paper cafeteria trays online and HAD to have them so that actually determined the theme of the whole dinner.

Here’s all the kids eating with their cute cafeteria trays.
The kids are cute too.

Here’s some of the very simple food.  I usually like to do homemade food with new recipes and lots of ingredients… but I just didn’t have it in me this year.

The Cake!  I just got a simple cake at target with sprinkles on the edge and added the rest of the decorations myself.
You should have heard the Target baker when she was taking my order- “is that all?” “would you like anything else on the cake?”  “anything at all…”

One of their missions was to dress up in disguises and we took some fun pictures.

Another mission- driving school!

I didn’t get any good pictures of this one.  They were moving too fast!

Everyone’s favorite mission- Laser training.
 IMG_4604
I was hoping it would be everyone’s favorite activity because it looks just like an awesome spy movie and it took Mike an hour to put it together.  But it turns out it was their favorite because there was candy at the back and they just loved to go through the maze and grab candy.
Over and over and over.

      IMG_4603
I even had a spot for the grown ups to relax since they work so hard.
 IMG_4641
My family sure did enjoy it.
It’s a good thing I didn’t PAY them to help.
IMG_4602

IMG_4656

For the last mission of the day they had to pop balloons and find the secret message and it took them downstairs and look for the next clue and the next clue.

IMG_4654
I just thought these pictures were funny.
 IMG_4671
Then they had to stay on the sidewalk and shoot out the dynamite before it exploded.
And then they got goodie bags.

At the end everyone got a diploma in a very official ceremony.

Ningxia Nitro Smoothie Recipe

For some reason I was inspired to make a smoothie with some Ningxia Nitro.  It turned out to be so delicious that I had to share.  I can’t even pinpoint what the key ingredient was so you have to make it just like this.  Kidding.  Switch it up and see what you get.  The key is to try something.  It’s fun.

smoothie recipe
I used one banana and estimated on the strawberries and blueberries.  I put  a little water in so it wouldn’t be too solid.

Yes, I used my ninja blender and yes, it is made of plastic.  And yes, I know you are not supposed to put citrus oils in plastic but I feel like the super strength ninja blender plastic will be okay.  Also, I dropped the lime on top of the banana and let is soak in for a bit before blending.

And I think the lime oil may be the key to this whole recipe.  I can’t be certain.

Enjoy!

Young Living International Convention 2014

Last week I got to go to Salt Lake City for the Young Living Convention.  I was so excited to go because I’m a dork and I love conventions.  I wanted to see everything and learn everything and explore Salt Lake since I haven’t really been there before.

Couple of things: these pictures are totally out of order because it takes me forever to get them in order… AND I’m a terrible picture taker- it’s true.  I blame my phone camera but it could just be me.
phone 7114 085
Here’s my roomates for the week.  We just arrived at the airport and needed a selfie while we waited on our bags.  Suzie, Melanie & Stephanie.  You can check out Stephanie's post about convention HERE.  Her post is much more organized and interesting. (In fact, I don't know why I'm continuing with this, but here we go)

Here’s some of the Young Living Naturally team at the opening launch party.

The theme this year was Live Your Dream.  And guess what one of the new oils is called… Build Your Dream.  Yea!
phone 7114 086
They had these big statue things that have all the different ranks with our names beside them.  The pins you get for each rank look just like that- except way smaller.
  phone 7114 123
I am a Silver rank and it was fun going to convention in one of the ranked spots because I got to find my name on the board.  There were over 1,000 other silvers there so no one was following me around asking to take pictures with me or anything… it was just fun!
phone 7114 172
So here’s where the order thing is a bit crazy.  On the last day of convention we got to go to the farm in Idaho.  They grow lavender and hyssop and some other things here that they harvest and distill for the oils.  We got to walk around the farm, walk through the plants, touch, smell, see- everything that goes into making these oils.
phone 7114 171
Any of you could go see it also if you happen to be in the area.
 phone 7114 165
Hyssop plants?
 phone 7114 164
This is my lame attempt at a selfie.  I’m horrible at them and I should just give up.  Behind me are thousands of seedlings- possibly of lavender.  You can go and help plant them for the next harvest.  What other company lets you do that?  Nothing to hide.

 phone 7114 161
They had a little jousting fun on the farm.  There were lots of activities for kids and some fun entertainment.
 phone 7114 157
How beautiful is this place?  I love mountains.
 phone 7114 151
Before we went to the farm, we stopped at the Young Living corporate offices for a tour and the warehouse.  This is the front of the warehouse.

Inside the warehouse- Suzie trying to capture a selfie with the cool picture.
 phone 7114 141
Love this billboard we saw on our way to the farm.
 phone 7114 136
On our last night they had an awesome party- nitropalooza.  If I could plan an awesome corporate party I would do it just like this.  There were 3 stages spread out with circus type performers on each one.  I love those people that swing from the fabric but my favorite was the hip hop crew that performed on one.  There were tents with activities for the family and food spread out everywhere.  At the end- a Train concert that was a lot of fun!
 phone 7114 121
Some new products- These are 2 oil sets- Freedom Sleep and Freedom Release designed to help people with PTSD.  We heard some AMAZING testimonies about these oils.
 phone 7114 120
Here’s another new kit called Reconnect.  It has some new oil blends that were created to help adults and children that are having trouble connecting to their environment and the world around them to… reconnect.
 phone 7114 119
This is Kendra- we are waiting in line to get our Ningxia slushees.  This was the before picture, I forgot to take an after picture- we were moving too fast after!  Ningxia slushees = delicious.
 phone 7114 118
This is a new diffuser designed by Gary.  One of the staffers told us all about it and it’s really cool and simple to use.  I have 3 diffusers right now so I need to wait before I get another one.
 phone 7114 115
Something else new- an animal kit!  This has everything you need for animals oils, shampoo, ointment… One of the coolest things, I think, is a spray you spray on before going on walks or sending your pet outside to keep other animals away.  We don’t have pets but if we did I think this would be useful.  Also, all the oils in the kit are already mixed with a carrier oil so they are the proper concentration for pets.
 phone 7114 113
And this set- the one everyone is going crazy for.  The kids set!  6 oils for kids that are pre-mixed with a carrier oil to be the proper strength for kids.  C loves being able to roll on the owie oil himself.  There’s one for sleep, bites, owies, tummy problems, focus and sniffles.
 phone 7114 111
One day they had a panel to tell us more about the Freedom kits and give testimonies from people who had been using the oils.  I loved hearing all the stories.
phone 7114 108
In one of the big rooms they had a little “village” set up so that you could wander through and see all the products.  Each room was decorated to the theme and had lots of staff to tell you more about the products.  You could touch, taste and smell everything.
 phone 7114 106
One night there was an awards gala and it was “formal” attire.  We all got to buy dresses and have a great time!  There was even bottles of ningxia red on the table.  That’s my kind of party!
 phone 7114 098
This is my silver award.  I knew we would be getting something personalized but this is so much prettier than I expected.  It’s really heavy too- so heavy I had to hand carry it home because it put my suitcase overweight.  Well that and lots of new product!
 phone 7114 096

This is a packet of the ningxia I keep talking about.  A security guy found it in one of the bins as he was stacking them back up and was about to throw it out.  We don’t let that stuff go to waste at our house so I gladly grabbed it and drank a strangers drink.  Oil people are good people.
 phone 7114 184
Here’s another new product that came out.  Pancake and waffle mix made with Einkorn wheat- the most ancient wheat that hasn’t been genetically modified like the wheat of today.  I can’t wait to learn more about einkorn.  I’m fascinated with food that’s more natural- our food today sure doesn’t look like it used to.
 phone 7114 181
Our last morning there we found a cute breakfast shop.  So cute that I wanted to take a picture.
 phone 7114 177
Lovely lavender growing at the farm.
 phone 7114 175
Suzie taking a selfie at the farm.  Everyone needs a lavender selfie!
Our week was go go go.  We had events from morning till night.  I hardly talked to my family at all because we were busy.  Somewhere in there I realized I wasn’t really tired.  I stayed up even later than usual and got up at 7ish.  Maybe it was the oils?  Maybe there really is something to these oils.  Also could have been the 8+ oz of ningxia red I had each day!
