I'm Published!

Ha, not exactly... but sort of.

I was the interior designer for a project that is in the book (shown left).  My name is in it- seriously!  It's in tiny print next to the other members of the team but hey, that counts.

It's a really nice coffee table book with projects all over Texas.  Some you will recognize like the American Airlines Center and some will be new.  Buying this book does not support me in any way so unless you need a coffee table book- you can just come look at mine :-)

Here are a few project images.  I was fortunate to be able to work on the project from start to finish and it was a very special project to be a part of.  This was designed for Samaritan House in Fort Worth.  It's an apartment complex designed to provide affordable housing to people with HIV/AIDS so they have somewhere to live as they get back on their feet.  The organization is incredible and you can find out more about them HERE.

I certainly can't take credit for it myself, it was a huge team effort and I was only a tiny part.

Just wanted to share a little of what I do every day with you!

A Parenting Tip

Keep an eye on your kids.

Baby doesn’t belong ON the dishwasher.

January 101

It only takes a second for them to get into something they shouldn’t.

A Bathtime Story

What an imagination Cason has.  He told me this story at bathtime last night.  Thank you for letting me interpret it for you.

Meet the Contractor.  The box he came in said he was a tugboat captain but do tugboat captains wear hardhats?  I don’t think so.

January 079

This is the Geodesic Dome designed by the architect C.  Well, he didn’t design the Geodesic Dome, he just designed this one.  January 081

This is the Architect C.  He’s very talented… obviously.  January 086 The contractor wants to build this dome on the edge of the wildlife reserve.  He doesn’t care about the animals.  He makes a big mess and only cares about the bottom line (not all contractors, just this one).

See the turtle sunning on the edge of the reserve?  The contractor doesn’t care about him… Architect C does.

January 082

Here’s the penguin.  He fell off his matt but he was sunning.

January 084

Sometimes the Architect cares a little too much about the animals.  Wait C, penguins aren’t tasty.

January 092

Contractors are.

 January 083

C, you can’t eat the contractor.  Sometimes you want to but don’t eat him. There’s got to be another way.

As usual, the interior designer saves the day.  She sets up a program to save the wildlife and still build the dome.  It’s all about recycling… and working together.

 January 085

There is even room for ducks on the reserve.  Yea, everyone is happy.

January 094

The interior designer then does the architects hair.  Interior designers need a laugh sometimes.

The End

*In the real world interior designers do not do Architects hair… unless of course they are married to an architect.  In general though- it would not be an acceptable practice at the office.

Babies First Haircut

I guess it's typical to wait until a child is 1 year for a first haircut but we just couldn't.  As the picture below indicates, it was just getting too long.  The back and sides were beginning to look shaggy and messy.  He doesn't have a ton of hair but what he does have was too long.  I was secretly hoping for him to have curly hair so he could have long curls... but straight and fine is what we got.  We can work with that.

I would had done it myself but I had images of me with the sharp scissors beginning a cut and him swinging his head around and then there's blood and crying and I just couldn't handle that.

So we went to this place called "Cool Cuts" or something like that.  They were really nice and he got to sit in this cute little car.  He did great!  No crying or fussing or even swinging of the head.

I realize he doesn't look happy here but he inherited the "if i'm not smiling i look like i'm pouting" lips from his mommy.  It was fun.  They gave me a little bit of his hair to keep which I have no idea what to do with.

Then we go to checkout and it's $17.50.  Are you kidding me?  I think this is something I will learn to do myself.

Okay seriously, does anyone know where spellcheck went in the new blogger?  I can't spell to save my life so i'm up a creek here.  Please excuse the spelling until I figure it out.

A new Bible Study for You- Named By God

Have you ever been hanging out with a group of friends and started to talk about all the famous people you "know".  It usually starts innocently enough:
"I saw Will Smith at the airport the other day"
"Seriously?  I saw Jessica Simpson at Jason Wittens Superbowl party"
"No Way!  When I was in LA I ate dinner next to Hugh Jackman"

None of these are me talking by the way.  No, I want to contribute to this conversation but I can't.  You see, I desperately want to run in to famous people but I never do.  Never.  Not on airplaines, not in restaurants, not out shopping, nothing.  It's probably becuase I would behave like a complete idiot and embarrass myself and everyone around me and God is sparing my family and friends from that humiliation.  One time I ran into Dave Crowder in Pier One.  But I don't know if I count that since he sang at my church every sunday.  So he was just our worship leader... and he wasn't as popular as he is now.

I have a point.

My friend wrote a book.  I real, live book that you can buy on Amazon (and probably other places- buy why buy books other places).  I went to high school with her and she assisted in hooking Mike and I up and she sang at my wedding.  Oh, she did my makeup too.  She's obivously quite talented.  She was the only one I trusted singing the Sister Act 2 version of "Joyful Joyful".... and Mariah Carey's version of "All I want for Christmas".  So, her name is Kasey and she wrote a bible study and started a great ministry to minister to women and she speaks at churches.

So, I know someone who wrote a book.  She's famous, right?  I think so.  Someday she will be the next Beth Moore and she will invite me on her trip to the Holy Land to carry her bags and it will be so great.

Well, rather she takes me on the trip or not, I'm still going to read her book.  Mine is on the way and I hope you will give it a read also.  She's an amazing woman and I'm so excited for what God is doing in her ministry.  You can visit her web site HERE and click below to purchase her book.  Yes, that's her on the cover.

On a side note, thank you so much for all your help in starting my new blog.  I appreciate all you "followers" and your page clicks.  Hopefully I'm writing about something you find interesting... at least every once in awhile.

I need your help!

I know, I know, I'm always asking for something. This will be the last time, I promise.

No, I can't promise.

Here's the deal. I've started a new blog about design. It's really for me to have a creative outlet and talk about something I love. I need some help getting it off the ground. I currently have no (as in zero) followers and the only person that visits is me. I know, it's sad.

I was hoping y'all could go visit the blog every once in awhile and become a follower. You won't get email or spam or anything like that. You don't even have to read it if you don't want to, just visit until other people start visiting. I know, this is a cheap and lame way to get visitors... but you have to start somewhere! Here's the link: EVERYTHING DESIGN

If you are feeling extra helpful, there's a button on the right side of the blog and you can add it to your blog. Also, I have ads on that blog that supposedly relate to what I'm talking about, you are welcome to click on those. Also, comments. I know, I'm terrible about comments but I will try and be better.

What's in it for you? Well, I'm happy to promote your blog in any way I can, just let me know. If you have a button, I'll put it up... If you want a button, I can help you make one then put it up. Let me know if there is anything you would like to see me write about.

One more thing. I'm selling letters (like the one below) on the blog. Don't worry, I'm not asking you to buy one, I'm just letting you know anyone who has said recently to you "I want an elaborately decorated initial for my home." You never know. You can find more info on the letters HERE.

2010- Not really a fan.

I'm sorry, but it's true. I was so ready for 2009 to be over. I was done, I was ready for a new start, a fresh new year. Don't get me wrong, in 2009 we had the greatest little blessing ever, Mr. Cason, but it was the hardest year I have ever had. Not only was having a baby hard, the exhaustion, the hormones, the sickness. To add to that we had a terrible economy which put added pressure at work.. as if working full time with a baby is easy.

I want to be positive, I really do. I even attempted to change my mindset for a bright new year full of wonderful unknowns. Then, January 1st 7:00 am, I find a screaming Cason on the floor having fallen out of his crib. Thankfully he was fine but I don't know if I have recovered. "What a great start to the year" I said. Mike was more encouraging "It's just one thing". Then, the next few nights Cason stopped sleeping through the night and started screaming. Then I had an unfortunate incedent out to lunch and my partially fake tooth (yes, I know it sounds redneck) fell out. 2 hours at the dentist getting it fixed (it is a front tooth so it had to be done right away) and I'm ready to say goodbye to 2010.

I'm exhausted, I'm discouraged, I'm frustrated, I'm stressed, I'm stretched thin, I'm confused and unsure. I know God can't use me when I'm like this. I know I need an attitude adjustment and I need to be thankful in all my circumstances and so many other things. I'm just having a hard time with that right now... so honest is the best I can be.

Worst Mom Ever

Yep, I did that to him. I scratched him with my fingernail on accident when I was trying to catch him from falling. It didn't bother him much. I feel like all I do is try and keep him from hurting himself. He went from hardly mobile at all to extremely mobile and it's hard to keep up. I realize it's only going to get harder.

Do most kids end up with a lot of bruises when they are learning to walk or is it just mine?

Our Christmas Story

Here's the story of our Christmas- the first Christmas with a baby.

I have to talk fast cause there's a lot of catching up to do!

Christmas Eve we headed to Tyler to see Mikes parents and sister and their 3 kids. We had a big feast and Cason had a great time... as you can see.

He got some of his first presents.

This toy lights up and plays music- perfect!

There's Daddy and Cason.

The kids all got snuggies.

Cason was exhausted by the end!

Then we drove back to Colleyville through a snowstorm. The roads were not terrible during our drive but we left in plenty of time to get home, change, and make it to the 6:00 service. Instead, we walked in late to the 6:00 service.

We got home to our house looking like this:

There's the table on our back patio. There was a screwdriver buried in the show we didn't even know about until it melted!

Well, the plan was for us to spend the night at home and drive to McKinney Christmas Morning for brunch with the extended family then Christmas with my family. Given the worsening road condition we decided to drive to McKinney that night so that we wouldn't miss brunch the next day if the roads were all iced over. Looking back, it might not have been the best idea because for some reason, the weather wasn't reporting how incredible terrible the roads were. Usually, 3 snowflakes fall from the sky and the whole city shuts down. That day, we have a blizzard and the weathermen think that the roads won't get bad until the next day because the roads aren't cold enough yet. Whatever.

So, After church we ran home and tore open our presents. I got everything I wanted and more and so did Cason.

Cason loved my beautiful wrapping.

Yea. Blocks!

He's already an avid reader. So smart.

I got a gravy boat- Mike went to Crate and Barrel to get it. I'm so proud!
Mike also got me a box of tea from my favorite tea place. These are all the top sellers in a beautiful box. Love it!After a LONG slippery scary drive, we make it to McKinney just in time for our annual Christmas Even PJ's.

Goodnight.

The next morning we went to my cousins house and had brunch and a gift card exchange. I got a $25 to AMC theaters and Mike got $25 to Banana. Good times. Cason made it as long as he could.

My uncle's dad can play the saw so he gave us a mini concert.

Cason and Pops.

Then we opened presents with the fam. I made Dad an apron with the eggnog recipe on it. Sounds stupid but it was kind of cool. This recipe had been handed down from my moms dad and it's from the petroleum club. His handwritten notes are on it and I scanned the original for the apron.

Cason liked rolling in the paper more than playing with the actual gifts.

A tall tower!
Cason and Uncle Crisco.

Cason got a new wagon!

Crisco takes cason for a ride.

The snow was still on the ground when we got home Christmas night!

Mike made a great fire and we enjoyed our new presents.

Especially my new slippers. They are from Anthropology and they slip on and tie. There are little grippers on the bottom so they are not slippery. My feet stayed perfectly toasty.

It was a wonderful Christmas even though it didn't go as totally planned. I have a feeling based on the weather that most peoples around here didn't.
Since it's 11:30 and I've already been interrupted twice by a crying baby and I'm not sure when I'll post again... I'll update on the rest of the week. I've been off since a few days before Christmas and it's been great. I have loved being home and spending time with Mike and lil C. Cason has made huge strides in crawling this week. He learned a few days before Christmas and he was SLOW. Now he can crawl across the room and pull up on whatever object will stay still long enough. We are attempting to babyproof the house but so far we have only taken the boxes of babyproofing supplies out of the closet. I had no idea everyhing would happen so fast!
